Dive-Computer Batteries: Compare Charging and Replacement Ownership

A rechargeable battery and a user-replaceable battery create different ownership questions. Neither label, by itself, tells you which accessories to retain, how a replacement is handled or what should be confirmed before a trip. Compare the manufacturer’s documented support route alongside the hardware specification.

Separate charging from eventual replacement

The Shearwater Peregrine support page identifies an internal rechargeable battery and the included wireless charging pad. It also states that battery replacement is available through authorised service centres, including inspection and testing. Recharging a device and replacing its internal battery are therefore different tasks with different arrangements.

For a prospective owner, useful questions are whether the specified charging accessories are included, where they will be stored, and which authorised service centre handles the model in your region. Ask the service centre about current arrangements rather than treating a general website turnaround target as a guaranteed door-to-door schedule.

User-replaceable still means model-specific

The Perdix 2 product page describes a user-changeable single AA battery. Its support information includes battery-type recommendations and feature-related qualifications. The lesson for a buyer is to read the battery chart and the applicable manual, not to translate a familiar physical size into an unrestricted choice of chemistry or voltage.

This guide does not reproduce a battery-opening procedure, select a battery for your dive, or explain seal servicing. Those actions depend on the exact instructions and condition of the device. An owner who cannot resolve a question from the proper documentation should obtain manufacturer or authorised-service help before relying on the equipment.

Make the ownership comparison visible

For each shortlisted computer, record four items: normal charging or battery-supply requirements; the current instruction set; the permitted replacement route; and the service contact for that model. Then add the documents or accessories that are actually included with the particular offer. This turns an attractive headline feature into a set of questions that can be answered before purchasing.

For an existing or second-hand device, also confirm its exact identity and available service history privately with the seller or service provider. Shearwater’s current Perdix 2 page says the product is no longer being manufactured and directs buyers to dealers about remaining inventory. This comparison is not a new-launch announcement or evidence of TRIMIX stock.

Ask an exact-model availability question

To explore supply options, ask TRIMIX about actual dive-computer availability and exact-model documentation. Include the requested computer model, its current instruction set and your charging or authorised-service questions. No TRIMIX listing or supply of these computers has been established here. TRIMIX has not tested their battery systems; the photograph shows an existing Peregrine, not a charging or endurance test.
