Buying a Used SUP Motor? Verify the Service History Before the Upgrade Claim

A used motor advertised as refreshed or upgradeable needs more than a familiar brand name. Ask what work was actually completed on that particular unit, and separate that record from an advertised service the seller has never used. An available program is not proof that an unidentified second-hand motor qualifies.

Compare the service description with the individual unit

The current Bixpy Motor Refresh Package page describes diagnostics and servicing, offers model selections, requests a serial number and warns that not all motors qualify. It identifies water damage and physical abuse as disqualifying factors and limits its included return-shipping description to US addresses. These are the manufacturer’s program conditions, not a TRIMIX inspection of a used motor.

The Bixpy support page uses a narrower description referring to working J-1 or J-2 motors outside warranty. Because a general support paragraph and a current service selection may differ, ask Bixpy to confirm the applicable model and condition directly. Do not turn that difference into an assertion that every generation has the same upgrade.

Request a unit-specific evidence file

Ask the seller for externally accessible model and serial identification, the original purchase information if available, and dated service paperwork. The useful paperwork identifies the unit and scope of work. A receipt for buying a replacement propeller is different from a manufacturer’s completed diagnostic or controller service.

  • Was the service completed, merely ordered, or only suggested?
  • Does the serial number on the record match the motor being sold?
  • Which parts or electronics were changed, and which remained original?
  • Does the manufacturer confirm compatibility with the proposed battery and control generation after that work?
  • Are further inspection, transport or service costs still unresolved?

Keep these as separate entries. A controller upgrade may answer an electrical-generation question while leaving the board’s mount, the battery’s history and the motor’s current condition unassessed. A clean exterior photograph cannot establish the inside of a sealed assembly.

Compare the evidence gap as well as the price

Make two columns: documented current setup and missing confirmation. Include the actual motor, power pack, control, charger and board adapter in the first only when their identity is established. A vague promise that it should work with the latest battery belongs in the second until the maker responds.

A service assessment or new documentation may change the ownership comparison, but do not invent the likely repair bill or claim a percentage of remaining battery life. Leave equipment condition and service eligibility unknown where there is no evidence. This is a purchasing-record framework, not instructions to open, repair or power up questionable equipment.

Use the TRIMIX SUP compatibility checklist for the broader setup record. To ask about SUP thruster availability and compatibility, provide the board, fin-box, motor and adapter models, your country and the question identified here. There is currently no public TRIMIX SUP-motor listing. An inquiry does not confirm stock, compatibility or an order. TRIMIX has not independently tested these configurations.

Evidence and date notes

This is an evergreen practical guide checked October 29, 2026. Source dates: Bixpy Motor Refresh Package model selections, serial identification and eligibility conditions: undated current page/document | Bixpy support page describing earlier working-motor refresh context: undated current page/document. Publication today does not make these documents new announcements. Manufacturer statements are attributed examples, not TRIMIX testing or confirmation of supply.
