A motor can fit a board’s attachment system while extending farther below it than the original fin. Before buying, ask for the dimensions of the complete installed configuration. A housing height, a specification labelled draft and the water clearance under a loaded board describe different measurements.
Keep the model beside the dimension
The legacy Bixpy J-1 Slide and Lock adapter page lists a motor draft of 9 inches, or 23 cm. This is a manufacturer-labelled figure for that older named arrangement. It is not a universal clearance, a minimum operating depth, or a current K-1 installation measurement.
A separate ISLE/Bixpy power-pole bundle page describes a particular mounting system that permits its motor to be raised. That capability belongs to the specified arrangement. It does not mean an ordinary fin-box installation has the same adjustment or can be operated in shallow water.
Ask for a dimensioned installation view
Request a side-view drawing or manufacturer explanation showing the board underside, adapter and lowest point of the complete fitted equipment. Ask which reference points define each dimension. A detached motor’s height may omit part of the mount, and a photograph shot at an angle may hide the projection.
- Which board, motor and adapter combination does the drawing cover?
- From which point is the stated draft or projection measured?
- Does it include the installed guard, tracking fin and all mounting hardware?
- Does the manufacturer specify operational clearance or other restrictions separately?
- Is any adjustment documented for this exact mount, rather than for another product pictured nearby?
Record the answer with its units and document revision. Do not fill an absent clearance value by taking a housing dimension from a different model. Nor should the motor’s water-protection depth rating be substituted: that rating answers another question about the specified component and conditions.
Relate the hardware record to the intended venue
A board’s loaded position and the depth available at a venue cannot be established from the motor listing alone. Give the supplier the intended board and loading context, and ask which installation restrictions must be resolved before use. Changes in local depth and obstacles remain venue questions; an equipment specification cannot guarantee a route.
The purchase decision is whether the documented installation suits the intended use, not how close the hardware can be brought to the bottom. This guide provides no universal depth threshold or instructions for running over shallow areas. If the maker has not established the necessary limits, leave suitability open and obtain the appropriate guidance before committing to that setup.
Use the TRIMIX SUP compatibility checklist for the broader setup record. To ask about SUP thruster availability and compatibility, provide the board, fin-box, motor and adapter models, your country and the question identified here. There is currently no public TRIMIX SUP-motor listing. An inquiry does not confirm stock, compatibility or an order. TRIMIX has not independently tested these configurations.
Evidence and date notes
This is an evergreen practical guide checked October 29, 2026. Source dates: Bixpy legacy J-1 Slide and Lock adapter, manufacturer-labelled motor draft: undated current page/document | ISLE/Bixpy specified power-pole arrangement and raising capability: undated current page/document. Publication today does not make these documents new announcements. Manufacturer statements are attributed examples, not TRIMIX testing or confirmation of supply.
