SUP Battery Cycle-Life Claims: Keep the Test Conditions With the Count

A battery advertised for more cycles has not automatically been shown to last longer in your SUP setup. The count needs a definition: what charging and discharging pattern was used, and what condition marked the end of the test? Keep those questions beside the number before treating it as a ranking.

Two manufacturer records show why the qualification matters

The official Aqua Marina BLUEDRIVE S PF-240S user guide lists a battery-life figure of at least 300 cycles in its parameter table. The quoted entry does not supply a retained-capacity endpoint there. Preserve the qualification that is actually printed rather than adding an assumed endpoint.

The ePropulsion Electric Boating 2023 catalog gives its Vaquita battery-life entry as 500 cycles at 80% depth of discharge. This is an explicitly dated catalog example, not a new product, a current supply statement or a specification for another battery. The added discharge-depth condition is information that should stay attached to the count.

These two entries are not a controlled head-to-head comparison. A difference in the stated numbers does not establish how both products would perform under an identical test, or resolve information absent from either entry.

Build a comparison that exposes missing information

For each exact battery and document revision, request the following fields:

  • Count: the stated number and whether it is a minimum, typical result or another manufacturer-defined claim.
  • Cycle definition: the stated charging and discharging pattern, including any depth-of-discharge condition.
  • Endpoint: the retained capacity or other criterion used to define the quoted life.
  • Conditions: the documented temperature, load and other test conditions needed to interpret the result.

Keep an unanswered field marked unspecified. A percentage describing discharge depth and a percentage describing retained capacity answer different questions; the presence of an 80% figure does not tell you which one the document means. Ask for the maker’s definition instead of replacing the original wording with a more convenient phrase.

Use the claim for the decision it can support

A lifetime cycle count is separate from the energy available on one charge, the duration of one outing and the terms of a defect warranty. Record those as separate purchasing criteria. Do not divide the cycle number by an assumed number of annual trips and advertise the answer as a guaranteed service life.

The practical outcome is a specification comparison with its gaps visible. If a supplier cannot identify the supporting document and conditions, the cycle claim remains insufficient for a durability ranking. TRIMIX has not tested these batteries, measured capacity retention or established a replacement interval. Follow the exact product’s care instructions; this article supplies no charging or battery-testing procedure.

Ask about the complete SUP setup

The TRIMIX SUP compatibility checklist covers the separate hardware-fit question. To ask about actual SUP thruster availability and fitment, provide the board, fin-box, motor and adapter models, your country and the ownership question identified here. No SUP motor is currently listed in the public TRIMIX catalog. An inquiry does not confirm supply, compatibility or an order.

Evidence and date notes

Evergreen equipment guide checked November 2, 2026. Aqua Marina BLUEDRIVE S Power Fin PF-240S official multilingual User Guide; exact publication date unprinted: undated document; exact publication date not shown | ePropulsion Electric Boating 2023 official catalog; Vaquita specification; URL edition code 20221221; 2023 edition, exact publication day not shown. These document dates do not establish a new launch or current availability. Manufacturer statements are attributed; no TRIMIX hands-on test is claimed.
