Garmin’s new Descent X10 announcement gives dive shops a buying question beyond screen size: what does a rental-mode handover actually include? A feature that simplifies configuration can help organize a fleet, but a shop still needs the exact operating instructions, its staff process and a clear explanation for the diver receiving the device.
What Garmin has announced
The Garmin Canada announcement, posted November 4 with a November 3, 2026 release dateline, introduces a dedicated dive computer with a 2.1-inch display. It describes rental mode as a way for schools and shops to configure devices for different divers and reset them between uses. That is a manufacturer feature announcement, not a TRIMIX rental-fleet test.
The announcement also distinguishes optional coloured bezel guards from the included band. The guards may help a business identify equipment, but an identification accessory is not an explanation of the device’s settings or the user’s familiarity with them.
Read the regional specification alongside the release
The Garmin Singapore product page separately lists rental mode, supported profiles, a charging/data cable and documentation. It labels the product Coming Soon when checked. The Canadian release says available now. These regional statements should not be combined into a promise of stock or an identical launch date everywhere.
For a fleet quotation, keep the destination market, exact part number and supplied accessories together. Ask the local supplier for the applicable manual, service arrangements and actual delivery status. A worldwide announcement alone does not settle those purchase conditions.
Make the rental workflow specific
Before choosing the model, ask the supplier to demonstrate the documented handover workflow to trained staff. Establish which configurations the rental feature changes, what remains associated with the device and how the next user is briefed. Do not assume that a short description of resetting configurations means every kind of stored record is cleared.
Keep inventory identification, user orientation and device configuration as separate entries in the shop’s acceptance checklist. A clear screen or a convenient fleet feature does not replace training or establish that a particular configuration suits an individual diver. This article provides no reset sequence or decompression settings.
Evaluate the operational benefit you need
A useful comparison asks whether the documented process addresses the shop’s actual handover problem: identifying the unit, preparing it under the maker’s instructions and explaining it before use. Ask for evidence of those steps rather than inferring an easier rental operation from the feature name.
TRIMIX has not operated the X10, verified rental-mode behaviour or confirmed supply. The launch is worth following as an announced consumer product with a fleet-management feature; claims about time saved or improved outcomes would require separate evidence.
Evidence and date notes
Dated product development: Garmin Canada post November 4, 2026; release dateline November 3. Singapore product specification undated. Regional availability statements were different when checked.
