The clear front of a camera housing is part of a documented optical and water-protection system. A dome and a flat port are not interchangeable cosmetic accessories. For snorkeling photography, identify the housing system and actual camera lens before comparing port shapes or planning a half-above, half-below photograph.
Read the intended optical role
Ikelite’s 69121 housing instructions describe dome ports for wide-angle and zoom lenses and flat ports for macro lenses. The instructions explain that a flat port magnifies the subject underwater and can limit wide-angle coverage. This is guidance within that documented housing system, not a universal approval for another maker’s lens and port.
The Ikelite DL port chart lists actual lens-specific port and accessory combinations. Its printed revision is 2026.07.30. DLM instructions and a DL chart refer to different named port systems: use each to understand the documentation method, not to mix their parts.
Build the purchase from the chart row
- Record the housing model and its port-system name.
- Identify the complete lens name, including its mount and version.
- Find the applicable current chart and copy the exact row reference.
- List every required port, extension, gear or optical accessory shown for that row.
- Ask about restrictions such as focus access or combinations not covered by the chart.
If your lens is absent, request manufacturer guidance. A similar focal length or a lens that appears to fit behind the window is not documentation of a supported combination. Likewise, two ports with comparable diameters do not establish the same mounting or optical relationship.
Keep the image goal separate from the seal
Tell the supplier whether you want underwater wide views, close subjects or split images. Ask which documented configuration supports that goal, and what limitations apply. A dome’s appearance in a striking photograph is not evidence that your exact combination can reproduce it.
The 69121 instructions explicitly require a compatible lens port for waterproof operation. Treat the entire installed configuration as the unit to verify. This article gives no port-fitting, seal-lubrication, pressure-testing or improvised adapter procedure; those tasks follow the current manufacturer’s instructions and appropriate support.
Send a complete configuration question
Read the TRIMIX buying guide and ask about actual camera-system availability using the housing and lens codes. Include the relevant chart row and desired photographic task. No TRIMIX camera inventory, tested image quality or cross-system compatibility is established.
