EBU and World Aquatics Extend Their Deal: Rights Are Different From a Viewing Schedule

European aquatics viewers have a new long-term rights announcement to follow, but it is not a channel guide for every race. The European Broadcasting Union and World Aquatics announced an extension through 2032 on November 3. The practical next step for a viewer is to match the agreement’s scope with a real broadcaster’s event listing.

The agreement has a defined period and membership

The EBU announcement says the renewal covers 2027–2032 and spans 23 EBU Members. It names major World Aquatics Championships and World Cup disciplines, including open-water swimming, diving and high diving. This is a media-rights agreement described by the parties; it does not establish that every session will appear on every member’s television channel or app.

World Aquatics’ own announcement confirms the partnership and participating members. Their long-term arrangement is useful context for viewers planning to follow several aquatic sports. The announcement’s references to events later in 2026 should not be mistaken for the start date of the new six-year contract period.

Ask three separate viewing questions

Question Evidence that answers it
Who holds relevant rights? The agreement’s named members and covered events
Who is showing this session? The broadcaster’s current event and session schedule
Can I access it here? The actual service’s territory, platform and access conditions

These checks are especially useful for open-water viewers, where a broadcast may have a different start time from the race’s local start. Record the time zone with a listing. A general federation calendar establishes when an event is planned; it does not by itself identify a live stream, commentary language or replay window.

Keep the announcement within its territory

A reader outside the covered member territories should look for the rights holder serving that location. Do not assume that an article describing European coverage establishes worldwide access, free access or permission to bypass a service’s restrictions. Similarly, the list of 23 members should not be treated as a guarantee that each provides identical coverage.

For a club watch session, our suggestion is to choose the actual event first, then save its official broadcaster listing and check it again close to the session. Avoid promising members a stream based only on this rights headline. TRIMIX has not opened or played a new broadcast, subscribed to a service or verified a particular race’s viewing availability. The news is the partnership renewal; the reader’s next task is the separate viewing check.
