BCD Specifications: Size, Lift and Equipment Weight Are Different Figures

A BCD specification can contain a clothing-style size, a lifting-buoyancy figure and the weight of the equipment itself. Those values answer different questions. A useful buying comparison preserves each label and unit rather than turning the largest number into a general measure of suitability.

Keep fit separate from lifting buoyancy

The SCUBAPRO BCS Manual lists model-specific performance tables. Its Litehawk table has several combined size labels while showing the same maximum lifting buoyancy across those rows. This is a concrete reason not to assume that moving to a larger fit label necessarily changes the lift figure.

Use the proper size chart for the exact model and arrange a fit assessment with your instructor or qualified supplier. Separately, ask them to confirm whether that configuration’s documented specifications suit the intended equipment and activity. This article does not calculate required lift, ballast or a personal diving configuration.

Equipment weight is another column

The manufacturer’s Litehawk product record lists weight and lift capacity separately. The former concerns the physical equipment being carried; the latter is a stated buoyancy specification. Retain the original labels and units when copying figures into a comparison, and confirm which size and configuration each figure represents.

For travel planning, ask what is included in the quoted equipment weight. Do not silently compare a stripped component from one offer with a complete package from another. A figure in pounds is not automatically the same kind of measurement as every other figure expressed in pounds on the page.

Verify the included configuration

On the Litehawk product record, integrated weighting is marked optional. That makes the actual offer important: request the complete supplied-parts list, exact inflator option and relevant model instructions. A feature appearing somewhere in a product family is not proof it comes with the item in front of you.

The manufacturer now says this Litehawk product is no longer being sold through that page. We use its retained documentation as a specification-reading example, not a new-product announcement or recommendation based on current stock. The referenced manual is an older revision, so an owner must obtain the documentation applicable to the actual unit.

Make the equipment inquiry precise

Ask TRIMIX about actual BCD availability and exact-configuration documentation with the requested model, size and included-parts questions. No TRIMIX supply or testing of the illustrated or discussed BCDs is established. The archive photograph shows a Beuchat model, not the Litehawk; it cannot verify that model’s fit, lift, condition or current configuration.
