Underwater Camera Filters: Match the Housing Before Choosing the Colour

The colour of an underwater camera filter is only part of the purchase. First confirm that the filter attaches to the exact housing you use, then compare the maker’s intended optical conditions. A red accessory advertised for a GoPro is not automatically a direct fit for the bare camera.

Follow the filter-to-housing relationship

The undated PolarPro Dive Filters page, SKU H9-1016, describes a set of filters that attaches to the outside of a GoPro Protective Housing. The mounting relationship is filter to enclosure, rather than a filter fitted directly to the bare camera. Retain both product identifiers when asking about the offered set.

Check the camera separately against the GoPro Protective Housing page and the applicable instructions. First establish that the exact camera is supported by that housing, then obtain confirmation that the filter fits that housing version. A shared camera brand is not enough to complete either check. These sources were checked October 31, 2026; neither page states a publication date.

Optical guidance is not a water-use limit

PolarPro distinguishes red for tropical water, magenta for green water and a separate snorkel filter for shallower tropical conditions. Its suggested depth bands describe the manufacturer’s filter-use guidance. They are not the camera’s water-ingress rating, a safe diving depth or advice to descend for a better image. The colours also are not a ranking from basic to professional.

Keep the water-colour description and intended optical conditions in the same comparison row as the filter name. If the listing only calls an item a red lens, ask whether it is the same filter variant and mounting design. Do not infer a magenta or shallow-water alternative from the colour of a product photograph.

Request a complete filter record

  1. Give the supplier your camera model and the housing’s exact identifier or clear product photographs.
  2. Ask for written filter-to-housing compatibility, including any generation or regional variant.
  3. Record the included colours, storage items and the maker’s installation and care instructions.
  4. Describe the intended surface-snorkeling conditions and ask which documented filter option applies.

This is a way to prevent an incompatible accessory purchase, not a guarantee of a particular image. Colour results depend on the scene and camera setup; we have not compared these filters in use. Confirm the exact offered set and its instructions before relying on an accessory for a trip. This guide does not establish TRIMIX stock or supply of the manufacturer examples.

Ask a useful equipment question

Read the TRIMIX buying guide for the inquiry process. To ask about actual supply or documentation, use product-context support and include the exact model, intended activity and the specification you need confirmed. An inquiry prepares an email; it is not an order or confirmation of availability.
