Open-Heel Fin Straps: Match the System Before Choosing Spring or Bungee

An open-heel fin strap is part of a specific retention system. The first ordering question is which strap and attachment are supported by the fin, followed by the correct size and package contents. Choosing spring or bungee by appearance can leave you with the wrong connection.

Compare actual supported model families

SCUBAPRO’s Jet Fin Strap page describes spring heel straps for Jet or Twin Jet fins, sold in pairs and offered in Large, X-Large and 2X-Large. The maker’s GO bungee strap page identifies GO fins and distinguishes Mini from Midi by the supported fin-size groups. These examples demonstrate separate compatibility and sizing systems; their size words are not interchangeable measurements.

Identify the connection as well as the cord

Make an identification sheet containing the full fin model, fin size marking, existing strap code and a photograph of both attachment points. Ask whether the proposed replacement is a complete assembly or only a strap element. A similar heel pad can conceal a different buckle or attachment arrangement.

If a seller proposes an upgrade from a rubber strap, request the manufacturer’s documented relationship to the exact fin and revision. A statement that an item fits many fins is not an installation approval for yours. Keep the written compatibility answer with the part number so a later repeat order is based on the same information.

Check the size with the intended footwear

Tell the supplier which footwear the fin manufacturer allows and which combination you actually use. A correctly named strap family may still be the wrong size. Ask for the relevant chart and fitting method rather than comparing a street-shoe size with an accessory label such as Large.

Do not shorten a spring, substitute generic cord or improvise fasteners to adapt an uncertain part. Follow the maker’s replacement instructions or service route. This is a procurement checklist, not a repair or in-water adjustment procedure.

Price the complete supported replacement

Check the number of straps supplied and whether necessary connectors are included. Record unanswered parts questions before comparing offers; one assembly and a pair cannot be compared as though the quantities were identical.

For a TRIMIX equipment list, ask about the actual fin and supported replacement parts. Include the identification sheet and intended footwear. The inquiry guide explains the process. These SCUBAPRO examples establish neither current TRIMIX fin stock nor cross-brand spare-part compatibility.

Evidence note: Evergreen ownership guide checked October 29, 2026. The two SCUBAPRO pages are undated. Their stated compatibility and sizes are manufacturer documentation, not independent fitting tests or universal upgrade advice.
