A camera housing advertised with leak detection may contain more than one kind of check. Before purchasing for snorkeling or diving photography, ask what is measured, when it is measured and how the result reaches you. A vacuum check and an internal water sensor should have separate rows in your buying notes.
Identify the two documented roles
The SeaLife SportDiver S manual, in the manufacturer’s April 2025 file edition, describes a pre-use vacuum-pressure analysis and a separate water sensor inside the housing. Its settings discussion distinguishes an alert about pressure change during the analysis from an alert activated by water or another conductive object contacting the sensor. These are different detection conditions, not two names for the same feature.
Ikelite’s SKU 47011 documentation explains the role of a vacuum system as checking the assembled housing before it enters the water. It also distinguishes housings with an installed compatible valve from those needing a separately identified kit. This product page is a documentation example, not confirmation of present availability.
Use a detection matrix
- Measurement: does the specification identify pressure, water contact or another condition?
- Timing: is it a preparation check, ongoing monitoring, or a function that requires a particular app state?
- Indication: where do you see or hear the result, and which exact model’s manual explains it?
- Required equipment: are the valve, compatible pump, electronics and power source included or separate?
- Unresolved condition: what does the maker require if a check fails or an alert appears?
Ask the supplier to fill the matrix for the actual housing version. Do not copy one model’s analysis duration, indicator colours or settings into another system. A phone or camera fitting mechanically inside the enclosure does not establish that its app, display and warning functions operate as expected.
Keep inspection and protection claims separate
The SportDiver S manual states that some risk of flooding or other failure remains, and its housing warranty does not cover the smartphone. That limitation belongs beside the feature list when evaluating the purchase. An alert or a passed preparation check is not a guarantee that a camera can never be flooded.
Request the current manufacturer instructions and an appropriate dry demonstration from the supplier. Obtain the exact manual and supplier support for pressure targets, installation or a failed check; do not copy another housing’s settings. Resolve an unanswered detection question before use.
Send the complete housing identity
Ask about actual housing supply and its documented detection functions, providing the camera or phone model, housing code and the feature you need explained. No TRIMIX camera inventory or third-party distribution is established here. The inquiry prepares an email rather than sending it or creating an order.
Evergreen equipment guide checked November 4, 2026. The SeaLife file is identified by its April 2025 edition path, without a verified exact publication day; Ikelite’s page is undated. This is documentation analysis, not a TRIMIX leak test.
