A dive computer appearing in a phone app’s supported-device list does not necessarily connect directly to the phone. Before choosing equipment for a digital logbook, identify the complete transfer path: computer to phone, or computer to cable, desktop software and account.
A named model changes the connection question
Suunto’s dive-log transfer FAQ identifies D5 and EON Steel/Core as Bluetooth devices that can pair directly with the Suunto app. It separately describes a SuuntoLink route using a computer and USB cable for other listed models, including Zoop Novo and Vyper Novo. Some of those connections can require an FTDI driver.
This is a specific support list, not evidence that every Suunto computer, similarly named watch or USB cable supports the same route. Preserve the full model name in a buying comparison. If buying used equipment, ask whether the actual supported cable is included and whether the required software works with the computer and phone you intend to use.
Transfer access and device memory are separate
The EON Core User Guide 4.0 logbook page says that the oldest dives are deleted as the logbook fills. It directs users to the app for more detailed analysis. A device logbook therefore should not silently become a promise of an unlimited permanent archive.
The guide describes this EON Core behaviour; do not apply its memory behaviour or recorded fields to another model. Likewise, seeing a log in an app does not establish that a separate backup exists, every original field is exportable, or another logbook service can import the file.
Ask for a demonstration with a clear outcome
- Connection: which exact devices, cable and software connect this computer to the intended logbook?
- Account: does the documented route require an account or internet access at any stage?
- Record: which information appears after transfer, and what remains only on the instrument?
- Retention: what supported export or backup options meet the owner’s actual record-keeping needs?
A useful dealer demonstration ends with an identified record visible in the intended destination. Bluetooth appearing in a specification is an earlier piece of evidence. Keep a successful transfer separate from firmware installation, cloud synchronization and an independently retained copy; each is a different result to verify.
Use the TRIMIX buying guide and ask about actual computer availability and documentation with the model and intended logbook. No TRIMIX supply or cross-platform export compatibility is established here.
Evergreen ownership guide checked November 6, 2026. Both Suunto pages are undated; the instrument guide identifies version 4.0. This is not a firmware-update or diving-settings procedure. TRIMIX has not performed a transfer or verified a particular owner’s records. Preparing an inquiry does not send it or place an order.
