A dive light that can also charge a phone raises a different question from one that simply charges through USB-C. Which device is supplying the power? Halcyon’s Phaser makes that distinction worth reading about before the next equipment comparison.
October 20, 2026 coverage reported the Phaser’s availability announcement. The current manufacturer information describes both illumination and reverse charging; it does not establish stock at every dealer or in every country.
Two uses share the same battery
On its Phaser product page, Halcyon describes a self-contained light combining the light head, rechargeable battery and folding Goodman handle. Its stated 29 Wh battery can supply compatible USB-C devices while travelling or between dives.
This is a useful distinction between two features that can otherwise look identical in a shopping filter. USB-C charging describes replenishing the light. Reverse charging describes using the light’s stored energy for another device. A product listing should identify which role it supports.
The convenience also has a boundary: the energy is shared. Charging another device is not a separate battery appearing inside the equipment bag. When considering the feature, think about what you intend to power and what role the light will need to fill afterwards. Ask the manufacturer about the relevant device combination rather than estimating a number of phone recharges from a headline capacity alone.
The connector does not settle the direction
The Phaser owner’s manual explains that some phones can both receive and supply power. It warns that an unsuccessful reverse-charge connection can result in the light drawing power from the phone instead. The manual provides the indicators and operating sequence for checking the intended role.
That detail is more informative than assuming a connected cable proves the desired result. Read the instructions for the actual light and secondary device before relying on the feature. The manufacturer’s description places this use between dives or while travelling; a waterproof light is not evidence that an exposed charging connection can be used underwater.
Read the supplied system as a whole
The manual also identifies the sealed battery as not user-serviceable and directs repairs to authorized service centres. An integrated design therefore calls for different ownership questions from a system selected around interchangeable battery components. Confirm what support is available for the exact product and region being considered.
For the illumination side of the comparison, our guide to spot and video beam patterns addresses another important variable. Power connections, beam coverage and the supplied equipment each answer a separate question.
