The next Open Water Swimming World Cup season starts before the year in its name is finished. World Aquatics’ October calendar announcement creates a practical planning question for followers of the sport: how do you keep one season together when it runs from November into the following May?
A season spanning two calendar years
The October 19 announcement sets out five stops for 2026/27: Cancún on November 6–7, 2026; Somabay on March 19–20, 2027; an unconfirmed location on April 23–24; Golfo Aranci on April 30–May 1; and Setúbal on May 28–29. It describes this as the first World Cup season held across two calendar years, with the calendar designed to support preparation towards the Budapest 2027 championships.
The separate October 21 viewing guide repeats those dates and links Eurovision Sport for coverage. It contains regional viewing information, including exclusions in its Europe note. Readers should follow that current guide and the provider’s access information for their location; this article has not tested playback or account requirements in every territory.
Two small calendar choices prevent confusion
First, put the season label on every entry. A calendar app showing only “March World Cup” can separate Somabay from the November opener in a reader’s mind, even though both belong to the same campaign. Keeping “2026/27” visible preserves the connection when you return to the schedule after the new year.
Second, keep the unconfirmed host as an explicit open question. The April 23–24 slot has dates, but the announcement does not name its location. A blank map pin should stay blank until the organiser supplies a host. It is not a reason to infer a venue from a previous season’s itinerary.
Use the right page for the next decision
The season announcement is useful for the sequence of stops. The viewing guide is the better starting point for finding the linked coverage service. Neither should be treated as a ticket, a personal race entry, or confirmation that a specific beach is available for a recreational swim during the competition.
Our suggested planning note therefore has a short list of unresolved details: current event program, local session times, coverage access and any future host update. Resolve the item that matters to your plan at its official source, rather than repeatedly copying the whole calendar into new notes.
For swimmers preparing an entry of their own, our NSW open-water entry and waiver guide gives a separate local example of the documents that can accompany a race. That article concerns a different event; its deadlines and conditions do not transfer to the World Cup.
Sources checked October 26, 2026. Calendar announced October 19; viewing guide dated October 21. Later stops are in 2027, and the third host remains unconfirmed in these sources.
