A tray can have the right mounting thread and still be the wrong purchase for an underwater camera housing. The fastener is one interface; housing width, access to controls, handle position and the supplied hardware are others. For a snorkeling camera kit, compare the assembled layout before ordering the tray from a photograph.
Read the tray’s complete compatibility statement
Ikelite’s tray with quick-release handle, product 9523.63, identifies mounting arrangements for its housings and separate optional hardware for non-Ikelite housings. It also lists different hardware for older Ikelite mounts and a spacer requirement for certain older serial numbers. Its box list therefore matters alongside the thread description: the existence of an optional kit does not make it included. Ikelite marks this product permanently out of stock and no longer available, so the listing is an archived compatibility example.
SeaLife’s Flex-Connect range provides a useful width example. The Dual Tray listing names SportDiver and SportDiver S but excludes SportDiver Ultra, while the Ultra Dual Tray is identified for the wider Ultra housing. A common tripod-thread reference does not erase that model-specific boundary.
Compare the kit as several interfaces
- Housing to tray: exact housing model, mounting points and required hardware.
- Tray to handle: handle side, position and the named connection system.
- Handle to lighting arm: the actual connector and any necessary adapter.
- Complete assembly: clearance around latches, doors and controls.
- Box contents: what is included and what must be separately specified.
Ask the supplier to confirm the layout for your complete housing, rather than approving only a screw diameter. A bottom view and an assembled view can answer different questions. If an accessory blocks access to a latch or charging area, ask whether the manufacturer documents removal or another arrangement; do not improvise longer bolts or drill new holes.
Separate the camera task from the feature list
Decide whether the aim is a handhold, an attachment point for one light, or a larger two-sided assembly. More mounting positions also mean more individual parts to identify, transport and maintain. The sources here describe hardware examples; they are not TRIMIX tests of image stability, comfort or suitability for a particular swimmer.
Check that any complete equipment arrangement is appropriate with a qualified local activity provider. A tray does not change the housing’s own water-protection instructions, and camera handling should not be taken as a substitute for snorkeling ability or supervision.
Send a precise equipment inquiry
Follow the TRIMIX inquiry guide and ask about the actual housing, tray and hardware required. Include the housing model, photographs of its mounting area and the intended accessories. These references do not establish a current TRIMIX camera-tray listing, confirmed availability or cross-brand compatibility.
